I was only 14 during that time and was mesmerized by the world. Everything was new and exciting and I particularly remember seeing all these beautiful orchids growing on trees. Their roots were just hanging and I was wondering how on earth they survive outside of soil. Little did I know that there are other plants, like succulents, that can grow without soil too.</image:caption>

We usually knit at the same time, and each winter we pick a project to work on together. Olin silloin vasta 14-vuotias ja lumouduin täysin ihmeellisestä maailmastamme. Kaikki oli uutta ja jännittävää, ja erityisesti muistan, kuinka näin kauniita, värikkäitä orkideoita kasvamassa puissa. Niiden juuret roikkuivat ilmassa, ja kummastelin, että miten ne voivat selvitä ilman multaa. En silloin vielä tiennyt, että on olemassa muitakin kasveja, kuten mehikasveja, jotka pystyvät kasvamaan mullattomissa olosuhteissa.</image:title>
